Description

The Timemore Black Mirror Basic 3 is a compact barista scale designed for preparing filter coffee and espresso. Compared to previous models, it has a smaller, lighter body and three separate weighing modes. It also features electromagnetic shielding to help maintain stable readings when placed near magnetic barista accessories or other electrical appliances.

The scale displays weight, brew time and real-time flow rate. When brewing filter coffee, it can also calculate the current coffee-to-water ratio. A separate espresso mode offers auto-tare and automatic timer start once the flow rate is detected. Thanks to its height of just 20 mm, the scale fits comfortably under most espresso machines.

Key features of the Timemore Black Mirror Basic 3 digital scales:

  • Three measurement modes – choose from standard manual mode, mode Pour-over and a separate espresso mode.
  • Espresso mode – the scales automatically zero themselves when a cup is placed on them. The timer starts once a steady flow rate of espresso has been detected and stops when the cup is removed.
  • Pour-over mode – features a three-second countdown, automatic timer start when pouring begins, and retention of final data after the vessel is removed.
  • Real-time flow rate – during brew time, the display shows the current water flow rate in grams per second, which helps you control your pouring technique.
  • Calculation of the coffee-to-water brew ratio – once the weight of the coffee has been recorded, the scale automatically calculates the current coffee-to-water brew ratio during brewing. This function is available in standard mode and pour-over mode, but not in espresso mode.
  • Electromagnetic shielding – protects the load cell from interference caused by magnetic accessories and devices in the vicinity of the scale.
  • Precise measurement of smaller quantities – in the range from 0.2 to 500 g, the manufacturer specifies measurement accuracy of 0.1 g, suitable for weighing both coffee and water during preparation.
  • Multifunctional slide control – allows you to switch the scales on and off and quickly switch between different modes.
  • IPX3 splash-proof rating – the design can withstand normal splashes during coffee preparation. However, the coffee scale is not waterproof and must not be submerged in water.
  • Double-sided silicone mat – protects the weighing surface, channels spilled water away via grooves and, when turned over, provides a moulded support for the portafilter.
  • Rechargeable battery – the built-in 1600 mAh lithium battery provides up to 24 hours of continuous display operation. A full charge via USB-C takes approximately 3.5 hours.
  • Compact dimensions – measuring 140 × 120 mm, it is just 20 mm high and weighs 300 g, making it suitable for both the worktop and for carrying around.

The TIMEMORE Black Mirror Basic 3 is suitable for users who alternate between espresso and alternative coffee brewing methods and want to see weight, time and flow rate all shown on a single display. Its main advantages are separate automatic modes, calculation of the coffee-to-water brew ratio, electromagnetic shielding and a slim body. Thanks to its reversible base, it can be comfortably used with both a dripper and a portafilter.
