The Timemore Whirly 01S is a compact battery-powered electric coffee grinder designed for both home use and travel. It combines portable dimensions with 42 mm S2C-042-EI conical burrs and a sufficiently wide grind range, from espresso through moka pots and pour-over to French press. The manufacturer has optimised it primarily for espresso, but thanks to its fine 0.025 mm adjustment steps , it can be used as an all-purpose grinder.

The Whirly 01S is powered by a 60 W motor and a built-in battery, so it does not need to be plugged into the mains when in use. A handy feature is the hinged bean hopper and a removable catch cup compatible with 58 mm portafilters. Weighing 760 g, it is ideal for users who want the convenience of electric grinding without the bulk of a large tabletop grinder.

  • 42 mm conical burrs S2C-042-EI – the stainless-steel burrs, made from hardened SUS420 stainless steel, are CNC-machined and achieve a hardness of 58 HRC.
  • Optimised for espresso – the burr geometry is designed primarily for espresso, but it can also handle grinding for moka pots, pour-over and French press.
  • Precise grind size adjustment – 0.025 mm increments allow for sufficiently fine-tuning of the espresso extraction, which is particularly important when preparing espresso.
  • 60 W motor – according to the manufacturer’s tests, it grinds 18 g of coffee for espresso in approximately 90 seconds and 15 g of coffee for pour-over in approximately 30 seconds.
  • Tilting bean hopper – the top section slides out when turned and clicks into place. The design helps guide the beans towards the burrs and minimises them bouncing around.

 

  • Catch cup with a capacity of up to 45 g – the removable container holds up to 45 g of ground coffee and allows for easy dosing into a 58 mm portafilter.
  • Battery operation – according to the manufacturer, the 7.4 Wh battery takes approximately three hours to charge. A single charge is sufficient for up to 20 espresso shots of 20 g each or 35 pour-over shots of 15 g each.
  • Automatic safety features – if the burrs become jammed, the grinder automatically stops and reverses the direction of rotation. It also monitors for overheating and switches off automatically once grinding is complete.
  • Compact design – with a diameter of 72 mm, a height of 190 mm and a weight of 760 g, the grinder fits comfortably into a suitcase or a larger rucksack.
