Paper portafilter filters are a practical addition to espresso machines and portable espresso machines. They are placed in the portafilter under the coffee or on top of the coffee bed, where they act as a protective barrier between the coffee and the metal strainer.

What are they used for?

• Improves extraction purity - prevents fine coffee particles (fines) from being released into the cup
• They keep the Portafilter and the coffee machine shower cleaner - less dirt settled after extraction
• Reduces channelling - more even water flow throughout the coffee bed
• They help with higher extraction pressure - they stabilize the coffee bed when preparing espresso, especially with lighter roasts
